Spotlight—Josh Canant If you’ve
visited RopingArena.com this year, you have seen the screen name “joshcanant”
at the top of the leader boards. If
you went to the USTRC Open Championships in OKC last year or you have been to
any Open ropings lately, you’ve probably heard the name “Josh Canant” as a
leader in the real “roping arenas”.
Yes, these are one in the same person.
Here is quick introduction to this Team Roping Champion.

heeling at the Colorado Springs, CO PRCA Rodeo. Age: 25 Home: Perryville, Arkansas USTRC
Level: #7 Heeler RopingArena.com: “Josh, how can you be so fast with TRSim
competing at RopingArena.com?” Josh: “I have roped calves and steers enough that
I know how to judge a barrier. I have
roped for 20 years. I go to rodeos all
the time. I just spend lots of time on here roping steers. Roping steers is
my passion. My roping partner lives next door, but works during the week
about 3 hours away from here. I don't get to practice during the week, so I
rope on here as much as possible. It is practice for me. We stop working in
about April so that we can go to as many rodeos as possible. The added bonus
is that this game is really fun! And I
can win prizes that I can actually use.” RopingArena.com: “In what ways does TRSim help you practice
or stay tuned-up for the real thing?” Josh: “It helps me with my timing mostly.
Timing is one of the main keys to roping real steers. When you can pick
up your timing on here, it will help you pick up your timing better on real
steers.” RopingArena.com: “What advice would you give others on how
to be faster with TRSim?” Josh: “I would tell them to not move their horse
until they see the start on the barrier. I just throw real fast on the
heading side. I throw my head loop as soon as I get out of the barrier. When
heeling, I have found out that if you reach a little, the steers are easier
to rope on the first hop. It is just like roping real steers, the more
you practice, the better you will get. Figure out the barrier on the
different arenas and try to see it every time. Getting out good is a
main key to having a fast run.” RopingArena.com: “Do you use a
joystick, a gamepad, or just the keyboard and mouse?” Josh: “I use the keyboard and the mouse.” RopingArena.com: “What advice would you give others on how
to be faster and more consistent in the real roping arena?” Josh: “Practice right and practice often, always
ask for help, and keep a positive attitude.
God bless and have fun everyone.” Spin To Win Hopefully
